South Africa’s Western Cape Province’s visual opulence coupled with its vast array of activities makes it one of the world’s premier destinations. The sheer volume and diversity of attractions on offer mean you have to be fairly selective about what you want to do and where you plan to visit, visitors often find themselves running out of time despite frequenting the Western Cape for several weeks, though it is testament to the province that these same visitors tend to return year after year to soak up the easy paced tranquility of the Western Cape.
Cape Town Airport sees thousands of visitors passing through her terminals each year, and with a limited public transport system, a practical and flexible means of touring the province is by Western Cape car hire, conveniently available as car hire Cape Town Airport, as a city car in Cape Town or as a town car rental in Stellenbosch. Although extensive in its allure, the Western Cape is only one of nine provinces in South Africa, each province exhibiting its unique topography, heritage and culture. Western Cape Car Hire Highlights and Attractions:
The Garden Route: Beginning at Mossel Bay, this attraction is mentioned in the same breath as the Kruger National Park and Cape Town as a South African highlight. A surreal journey of several hundred kilometers winds its way along a dramatic coastline. You’ll need a camera and plenty of memory cards.
Touring the Cape Winelands: stretching inland from Cape Town, the Boland, Franschhoek and Bainskloof Passes are some of the most picturesque winelands in the region along with Stellenbosch and Paarl. All wine regions are within easy driving distance of Cape Town, though there are numerous farms to each area and if you plan to enjoy them thoroughly it’s worth staying over night.
The Cederberg: San rock-art and moon-like rock formations punctuate this landscape resting 200 kms from Cape Town. Beautiful day hikes to the Wolfberg Cracks, Wolfberg Arch and the Maltese Cross, as well as mountain biking and lazy days around mountain streams
The Overberg: About a forty-five minute drive from Cape Town towards Hermanus. The undulating mountain scenery eventually gives way to the coastal areas perfect for Whale watching.
The West Coast: The two hour drive up the West coast to Langebaan with the Atlantic on your left and flower carpeted hills on your right for a beach crayfish braai is about as liberating as long summer days get.
