PICS: The supermoon in South Africa

The biggest “supermoon” since 1948 graced the sky on 14 November 2016. If you missed it, you’ll have to wait to for the 25 November 2034 for another chance to see the supermoon.

On 14 November 2016, the moon appeared 14% bigger and 30% brighter - than usual as it came closest to earth since 1948. However, the moon was 14% closer to earth than its farthest point or apogee.

A Supermoon occurs when the sun, moon and earth align - as well as the moon's orbit is the closest to earth. Also called a perigee moon, it is known by its size and brightness.

Before sunrise.... Our Supermoon sets behind the Sentinel over Cape Town's Hout Bay this morning. Took a page out of @natgeo and their genius photographers and used my SLR's multiple exposure function and was able to place the moon exactly where I wanted it in the frame. Took the first image with a zoom and the second one with a standard lens to exaggerate scale a bit. Apologies for the creative license but wanted to celebrate this special moon and via the naked eye it was definitely one of the most magnificent moonsets I have seen in awhile. #supermoon #supermoon2016 #capetown #mothercity #ilovecapetown #houtbay #moonset #wanderlust #moon #sentinel #moonphotography #beforesunrise #multipleexposure #multipleexposures #canon #canon5d3 #nofilter #nophotoshop #a2asafaris #josecortesphotography

Spactacular!  Wish that I could take pictures like that.  I tried, but mine is nothing to these ones.  I would love to see this Supermoon over the Kruger Nasional Park.  My favourite place! Congratulations!
