South African spring destinations to visit in 2016

With Spring just around the corner, we asked five travel writers to share their recommended South African spring destinations to visit in 2016 with us.

Numbi Valley, Klein Karoo

This hidden valley in the Klein Karoo is the ideal escape from the busy city life, providing travellers with crisp fresh air and incredible vistas.  Numbi Valley is an active permaculture farm growing fresh vegetables, fruit and olives.

It also boasts a self-catering cottage which is completely off the grid, with water sourced from a natural spring and run on solar energy.

To book a stay at Numbi Valley, visit: Rhian recently stayed there as well. -

The Garden Route, Sani Pass and the Panorama Route

For me, the Garden Route is the childhood favourite, but moving to KwaZulu-Natal for five years, Sani Pass is truly amazing! I also travelled through the Panorama Route and that was right up there as well... afraid I can't narrow it down to less than three!

The Mossel Bay to Cape Town N2 route

The stretch from Mossel Bay to Cape Town on the N2 is so beautiful right now. The canola fields are so gorgeous, it makes you want to pull over whenever and take a gazillion pictures.

Situated in the West Coast National Park, the Postberg Nature Reserve opens during the late winter / early spring months of August and September - the ideal time to witness the spring flowers in all their glory.

Roxanne visited the Postberg Nature Reserve in September 2015 - have a look at her experience here:

Augrabies National Park & the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park

Louise visited the Augrabies National Park during a Northern Cape road-trip in 2015 and was blown away by its ever-changing scenery -

She also recommends the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park (her very own bucket-list destination), which she explored in spring 2014 and was intrigued by its arid landscape of red dunes, dry river beds, and camel thorn trees -
