Drive South Africa accepts payments from the following credit cards: Visa MasterCard, American Express (Amex) and Diners Club. You will need a credit card when collecting your vehicle to cover any excess and the security deposit.

Can you guarantee I will receive the car I request?

While every effort is made to provide you with the exact make and model you request, specific models can not be guaranteed as suppliers reserve the right to replace models on their fleet without prior notification. The advertised vehicle gives you an indication of the type of vehicle and features you can expect.

What happens if I return my hire car later than the allotted time?

Vehicles are rented out in 24-hour periods, if you return your car later than the allotted return time you are liable to be charged a late return fee/additional rental charges.

Yes, Drive South Africa can arrange to have your vehicle delivered to you or collected at the end of your rental period, a car rental consultant will be able to advise you on delivery and collection fees.

Can vehicles have additional drivers?

Yes, though additional drivers must be declared at time of booking, and must have a valid driver’s license.

What is insurance excess?

It is the amount that you are liable for contributing towards the replacement costs of an item that you claim.

Must I return the vehicle with a full fuel tank?

Vehicles are re-fuelled by the car rental company on return. Although the needle may indicate the tank is full it may not be a true reflection, re-fuelling is done to ensure the next customer receives a full tank of fuel.

    Hi Lalit,

a)You do need a credit card to rent a car in South Africa, this is for a security deposit and to cover any insurance excess on the car hire insurance package.

    b) a normal vehicle is ok for the Garden Route

    d) It is extremely unlikely you will be attacked anywhere in South Africa by wild animals, particularly outside of game parks, and even then you would need to break the law and leave your vehicle in order to place yourself in a position where you might be attacked by any wildlife.
