Bakkie Hire Cape Town

About Cape Town

There are very few cities in the world quite like Cape Town, with its towering Table Mountain always looking over the city like a peaceful giant. World class beaches, well-kept wine farms not far in areas such as Stellenbosch and proximity to other worthy destinations such as the Garden Route and the wild West Coast have kept tourists coming back. It’s no wonder Cape Town keeps getting praise for being one of the best tourist destinations in Africa if not the world.

With so much to do and see in the mother city, it’s almost impossible to take it all in without hiring a car in Cape Town unless you want to spend on the taxi fees.

If you're living here and you're looking to move something then our Bakkie hiure options are for you, as we compare the best bakkie rental companies os that you save.

Best time to visit

If one wishes to enjoy an iconic Cape Town beach holiday it’s widely considered that late January until late April is the best time and this is the end of the warm summer months where days are generally long and balmy. Cape Town’s best weather conditions are generally from October until April. If you're visiting in the summer, remember that you can always hire a convertable for Cape Town as the weather will paly along nicely.

Around the area

The most famous landmark in Cape Town is arguably the towering Table Mountain. Other great tourist attractions include the Southern Peninsula  where tourists can drive along a scenic stretch of coastline, from Muizenberg to Fish Hoek gazing at the ocean or watching seals in Simon’s Town. Most of rhe city is accessible by bus, but car hire in Cape Town is recommended if wine tasting and hiking is on the agenda.

There is also a world of culture and wildlife to explore not far from the centre of Cape Town in areas such as Stellenbosch, the West Coast or The Garden Route.

Getting around

Car hire Cape Town is the best option but Cape Town has the better of the lot when it comes to public transport in South Africa, unless you're doing somehting more adventurous then a bakkie would be a better option. Public transport in all the major cities of South Africa is generally not up to scratch with Europe or North America, but Cape Town is generally regarded as one of the better South African cities when it comes to public transport. Largely due to their extensive myciti bus routes and functioning train routes which are still limited by time and area. If one really wants to see all the sights and sounds or Cape Town and the Western Cape, hiring a car really an excellent option.

Length of stay

Cape Town and surrounding areas really has a world of variety and adventures waiting around every corner. If one would have to allocate a minimum of a week this would be deemed to be not enough time. However roughly two weeks is said to be an optimal amount of time to see most of the sites in Cape Town and do a bit of travelling to some of the neighboring towns nearby.

What to pack

Cape Town experiences chilly and wet conditions during the winter months so prepare for wet and windy weather. If you decide to visit during this time of year. Summer days are hot and long, so naturally one would be expected to pack beach attire and sunscreen. Summer can also get a few cold spells so prepare for a turn in weather conditions on occasion. Depending on whether you hire a car, bakkie or 4x4 in Cape Town you would have different space options, so please take that into consideration as your Hyundai i10 won't take all of your camping gear.

Where to stay

Observatory is generally for the low end traveler, with an assortment of happy hour bars, cozy cafes and boutique backpackers and guest houses. This is an area for people wishing to see a more integrated alternative side to Cape Town.
