What should I be aware of when driving in South Africa?

South Africa drives on the left-hand side of the road. A valid driver’s license or an international driver’s license permit, a photo and signature of the holder, printed authenticated in English is accepted in South Africa. Please bear in mind, if your licence does not have a photograph you have to carry your passport. Seatbelts are compulsory, If you’re caught not wearing your seatbelt you will be subject to a fine. Speed limits on freeway are 120 km/h (75 miles) and 60 km/h (37 miles) in towns or cities (unless indicated). Always check the road signs and obey the speed limit.
