Wheelchair Accessible Vehicle Hire in South Africa

Wheelchair Accessible Vehicle Rental

Did you know that according to Disabled World, approximately 10% of the world's population is disabled? This is quite a large number and this is also why we weren't surprised when we received the following enquiry:

Question: Do you have wheelchair accessible vehicles that will allow a person in a wheelchair to be wheeled into the vehicle and secured safely?

Answer: Yes, we do offer wheelchair accessible vehicles (WAV). Catering for two wheelchairs and three passengers, The Toyota Quantums have been specifically adapted to accommodate quadriplegics. Fitted with a hydraulic side-lift that assists passengers in their wheelchairs onto a customised platform alongside the vehicle, it provides easy access and exit facilities.

The drivers of these vehicles have also been specifically trained to operate the hydraulic lift to ensure passenger safety at all times. These professional wheelchair friendly chauffeurs are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week in Cape Town, Durban and Gauteng.

If you are interested in hiring a wheelchair accessible vehicle or have anymore questions about wheelchair accessible vehicles, please don't hesitate to send us an enquiry. We also rent other vehicles in Cape Town.

      Dear Luminous

Thank you very much for your inquiry.  We do offer wheelchair adapted vehicles for rent in South Africa.  Unfortunately you will not be able to cross the border to Zimbabwe.

You could contact the Quadriplegic Association of South Africa: http://www.qasa.co.za/c_vehicle.php

We regret that we cannot assist with your inquiry.

      Kind regards

Hi I would like to know if I can hire a wheelchair friendly car, maybe something like a caddy? all other car hire websites offer the people movers at a very steep price which seems unfair when there will only be two people in it! The car is for my Father and I would like to drive it myself
    Thanks

Hi I would like to know if I can hire a wheelchair friendly car, maybe something like a caddy? The vehicle or van must be able to let the disabled person in the wheelchair sit while driving or transporting please. This is just for a one day outing to the mall please.

I will really appreciate it if a consultant can contact me.  We plan for the 12th or the 15th of December 2015.

    Kind regards

      Dear Annemie

Unfortunately our supplier that offers wheelchair accessible vehicles is currently fully booked.  We recommend contacting the Paraplegic Association of South Africa http://www.qasa.co.za/ for car rental options.

      Best regards

    Dear Sirs,
I am a 63 year old Disability Pensioner with a Valid Australian Disability Parking Permit, registered for my car in Australia and have a windscreen sticker that can be removed. The sticker contains my ID and car details. It also has the Blue symbal with a white wheel chair, same as your signage in South Africa.

I will be visiting Cape Town from 28 Feb to 17 March 2017, with a clean Australian Driver’s licence. (No demerits).

Could you kindly advise me if I can just display my permit on a hired car for that 2 week period please?

Or what do I need to do to comply to the Traffic Laws in South Africa to use dedicated disability parking bays.

Thank you very much for your reply and advice,

    Kind Regards,
    Gerald

    Dear Drive South Africa,

I am investigating the hire of a self drive wheelchair accessible vehicle. It would need to be able to accommodate 4 people including myself who uses a wheelchair (I cannot stand at all). We would like to pick it up in Cape Town on 9 August 2017 and drop it off on 1 November 2017. I would hope that a hire for this length of time would be able to get a reasonablediscount.

    Thank you for your help,
    Ann
