Best Places to Visit in South Africa - The Hidden Attractions

I am someone that loves discovery and exploration of new and exciting places. So I browsed a bit and came across some of the best-hidden places to visit in South Africa.

If you need a vehicle to get to these majestic places, visit car hire South Africa and book yourself a vehicle to get you there and back again.

Eastern Cape

Surrounded by the Witteberg Mountains of the Eastern Cape, Lady Grey is a quaint village that takes you back to an era before tar roads and shopping malls. If you love coffee shops this is not to be missed.

Free State

Experience the majestic Maluti Mountains in the eastern Free State from the basket of a hot air balloon when staying over in Clarens, every adventurer’s dream town and the perfect holiday getaway.

KwaZulu Natal

With the highest vineyards in South Africa at 1450m, The Stables Wine Estate offers an unexpected wine experience near Greytown in the heart of KwaZulu Natal.

Mpumalanga

For game viewing whilst hiking, enjoy the Ama Poot-Poot trail with its 13 species of game.  This reserve is situated on Uitvlugt Ponds game farm ± 10km outside Dullstroom in Mpumalanga.

Limpopo

Forget about claustrophobia and go caving in Limpopo province. The numerous caves in the Makapansgat valley hold fossils that date back 3.3 million years.

Gauteng

Escape from the hustle and bustle of city life and cast a line in the dam on the tranquil Thabametsi Farm. With an abundance of wildlife, farm animals and nature walks, this is a great destination to bond with the family.

North West

Enjoy eco-tourism at its best at the Pilanesberg National Park. Here you can see wildlife, including antelope species such as springbuck, red hartebeest, impala, gemsbuck, kudu, zebra, giraffe, lion and many more.

Northern Cape

Conquer a challenging 4×4 trail at Riemvasmaak. This dream holiday destination is 75 000ha of sheer mountain desert wilderness, located between the Orange and the dry Molopo Rivers, approximately 57km from Kakamas and 170km from the Nakop border post of Namibia.

Western Cape

If its cold and fresh air you need, drive to the scenic town of Ceres and take a breather at the Kleine Vallei Guest Farm. Here you can take one of the many easy walks not too far away from the guest house. Remember to take a trip and marvel at the Namaqualand flowers if you’re lucky enough to be there during Springtime, which is around August and September.
