Anti-Valentines Day Cape Town 2011

Dead CupidValentines Day is hurtling quickly towards us this year and we can feel the air getting heavy with sweet sentiments, stores crammed with chocolates and ‘cute’ teddy bears as the streets begin to swarm with multi-coloured rose bouquets. It enough to make us at Drive South Africa shudder in horror and run for our bins whilst clamping our mouths.

If you share our distaste of all things St. Valentines then the 14th of February is a great time to visit Saudi Arabia where the romantic holiday has been permanently banned! If you can’t afford the airfare but are still looking for a way out of the commercial consumer chaos of Valentines Day in Cape Town here are a few ideas on how you can help us celebrate Anti-Valentines Day 2011.

Love Sucks Affair

5Fm and Vuzu are teaming up with Chevy Spark this year for their annual Love Sucks Affair at the Old Biscuit Mill in Cape Town. They are sticking it to the couples by attempting to break the world record for speed dating by getting 400 people together in Cape Town and Johannesburg before breaking out the decks! To be a part you can buy a ticket from Computicket at R50 or you  can sms lovesucks and your name, age, gender and city to 33345.

Come along to the Cape Farmhouse Restaurant and enjoy the night at Rob van Vuuren on Valentines Day. The cost is R60 for laughs, some good food and a great time. For more information or to book you can visit Cape Farm House.

Fascinating Aida Theater on the Bay 2011

The hilarious British female comedy singing trio Fascinating Aida will be performing at the Theatre on the Bay in their first performance in South Africa. Their biting satire, brilliant lyrics and risqué style would give your mother a heart attack but makes for a flipping good time. Cost is R275 and tickets can be booked at Computicket.

If you are looking to swap the sickeningly cheesy Valentines Day picnics, beach sunsets and park strolls in favour of some adrenalin pumping alternatives try the Triple Extreme Adventure Package of wind, water and wave instead. A spectacular Helicopter flip over the Cape Peninsular, followed by a 1 hr high speed boat ride on the world’s fastest commercial boat and then a sunset cruise. Tickets are R1200 and can be booked at Computicket.

So join us at Drive South Africa in booting Cupid’s naked little butt out the window this year and celebrate Anti-Valentines Day! Woohoo for all the singles out there!
